Things that make you go hmmmm...

Actually it's more like "Things that make you go... what the %^&$!!!" These aren't just the moments that make your jaw hit the floor, they are the ones that take your jaw and nail it to the floor for a few days.

Two days ago I had one of these moments. Thus the reason why I am writing about it now... I think I have finally pried my jaw off the carpet and re-attached it to my face, so now I can actually say what has been mulling around in my brain for a few days.

It started out just like any other day... kids screaming and me pulling my hair out. No seriously, Todd had gone to work and I had a great day with the kids, I even managed to take them to the park without any life threatening incidents. Well later in the day my Mum calls me and says that her and a friend are going out to eat and a movie.... whatever, not biggie. Right around 9:30pm I get a call from my Mum. Still nothing unusual, but all of the sudden.... WHAM!! She drops a bomb. She has gone out to dinner with my best friends Mom and has found out some news.... MY BEST FRIEND IS PREGNANT!!! Not that I don't know how babies get into this world, but this one needs some explaining and digesting for a few days. So I call up my friend and ask what's new in the world of her. After a long conversation things started to make a bit more sense, but my brain is still digesting things.

Ok... so you ask, why is this such a shock? One, she's not married. (I know... not a huge thing in today's society, but she always seemed to be someone who would work for a few years, get married, and then a few years later have a couple of kids) Two, she's right in the middle of her 4 year bachelors degree. Something, I might add, that she has been working really hard at. And three, the Dad works at Pizza Hut and has no intention of earning a post secondary education. He is a really good guy, but he just doesn't have much ambition in life, and is quite content just coasting through life. They have been dating for over a year, but this wasn't exactly planned or anything. This was more of an "Oops! I think we got a bit careless honey!" type of situation.

Well, now that I have written this all down, it still doesn't make anymore sense in my brain than it did, but I do feel a bit better. Don't get me wrong or anything, I am happy for her, but it's still a shock. I love my kids to pieces and wouldn't trade them for the world, and I know she will love her little one, but it was more of bad timing than anything.

One last note.... if anyone has any good baby shower games, let me know!! I am throwing her a baby shower this spring and want to play some really fun games.

  • At first I thought you were about to say that your MOM was pregnant. That would have been more shocking. :-)

I hope your friend stays with her studies. As hard as it will be, it would be a shame to have gotten this far and have to stop.

  • Sorry, no game ideas. I haven't been to a baby shower in years so I don't know what's new in shower games. However, my guess is that a google search will bring lots of new ideas. :)
