Victim of Winter

So outside our back door there is the sewer access hole. Most peoples is buried in the ground or covered by a board. Ours normally is covered with a flower pot, but yesterday it was moved. We were loading things up to take to the dump and the pot kept getting in the way. So we moved it, no big deal. Well later in the day it started to snow and the snow filled the hole in, so it looked like the rest of the ground. Lucky me I stepped right into the hole. OUCH!! And freezing cold I might add. I had no coat or anything on and so I went face first right into the snow. Luckily my darling hubby Todd was right behind me to pick me up. He picked me up and set me on a chair inside and dusted the snow off of me. I had heard something "Pop" when I fell, so we set off for the hospital. By this point my ankle was swelling quite nicely and hurting like hell (to put it gently). We dropped Brighton off at my Mum's house so we wouldn't have to try and wrestle him while we were at the hospital. It is wonderful having my Mum so close, and that she is so willing to help out - Thanks Mum! Well after the doctor came and poked and prodded at my ankle, of course making sure to poke and prod the really sore spot, they x-rayed my foot. Apparently it was hurting in a place that most people don't have pain when they sprain their ankle, so they were afraid I had broken something. Luckily I hadn't. Although I have managed to stretch and tear a few ligaments in my foot. Yippee for me! So I'm going to have to take it easy for a few day, which isn't super easy to do with a toddler and a baby. Wish me luck.

  • Sarah, thanks for the comment on my blog, and I'm feeling much better. I had to giggle a little (realizing that, of course you were well enough to be able to write on here) as you told your tale, that I could totally visualize this happening, and how at least the snow was there to break your fall. (I know, that's very little consolation, but better snow than mud at least.) I hope your foot feels better soon, and maybe you can get Todd to replace that flower pot.

  • Thanks Ben. The flower pot went back as soon as we got home from the hospital. Glad you are feeling better too.
